South Sumter Middle School on Lockdown Following Bomb Threat

South Sumter Middle School (SSMS) is currently under lockdown and evacuation after a reported bomb threat on Friday, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).

Authorities confirmed the threat was received earlier in the day, prompting immediate safety measures. “Out of an abundance of caution, South Sumter Middle School is currently on lockdown and being evacuated due to a reported bomb threat,” the SCSO said.

Deputies and emergency responders are on-site, actively investigating and securing the area. Officials have not disclosed details about the nature of the threat or whether any suspicious items have been found.

SSMS is asking parents to remain calm and avoid coming to the school while the investigation is ongoing. “We understand the concern, but please do not come to the school at this time. We will provide updates as soon as possible,” the school said.

No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not provided an estimated timeline for when the lockdown will be lifted.

This is a developing situation, and further updates will be released as more information becomes available.
