According to Louisville Metro Police, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Chamberlain Lane and Chamberlain Court. Investigators reported that a vehicle struck Sawyer and fled the scene without stopping to provide assistance.

Emergency responders transported Sawyer to University of Louisville Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
