The community of Antler, North Dakota, is mourning the loss of Randy Lynn Fyllesvold, age 43, who passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at a Minot hospital following a tragic accident in Bottineau County.
His sudden passing has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep sorrow, as they reflect on the life of a man remembered for his devotion to family, his hard work on the land, and his steady commitment to his community.
Early Life and Education
Born on February 20, 1982, in Minot, Randy was the son of Jerald and Bonnie (Olson) Fyllesvold. He grew up in Plaza, where he graduated from Plaza High School in 2000.
From an early age, Randy showed a passion for working with his hands and understanding machinery, which led him to pursue higher education at Williston State College, where he earned a degree in auto technology.
After completing his studies, Randy returned to his roots, farming in the Plaza area alongside his brother, Roger. His love for farming reflected not only a profession but a way of life, one that tied him to the land and the community that he cherished.
Marriage, Family, and Farming
Life took a joyful turn when Randy met Kharra Peterson at Nodak Speedway. Their shared love of racing and the outdoors sparked a connection, and they were married on October 25, 2008. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, hard work, and love.
Randy continued farming and ranching in the Plaza area until 2019, when he and Kharra moved to their home south of Antler. There, he farmed with his father-in-law, Larry Peterson, and often lent his skills and time to help neighboring farmers with their projects. He was known for his reliability, his strong work ethic, and his willingness to lend a hand to others in need.
Community Involvement
Randy’s life extended far beyond farming. He was an active and devoted member of his community, contributing in countless ways. He served with the Antler Fire Department and the Antler Outlaws, sat on the Mouse River Soil Conservation board, and held the role of Sherman Township Supervisor.
Randy also made a difference in the lives of young people as a bus driver for the M-L-S student council, where his presence was a daily reminder of his care for the younger generation. His service reflected his belief in giving back to the community that had given him so much.
Passions and Interests
Outside of work and service, Randy embraced life with energy and joy. He was a stock car racer for many years, a sport that brought him both excitement and lifelong friendships.
More recently, he enjoyed wake surfing and spending time at the cabin he built at Lake Metigoshe. Above all, his favorite moments were those spent with his children, Hudson and Miles, sharing adventures, laughter, and love.

Randy is survived by his wife, Kharra, and their two children, Hudson and Miles, of Antler. He is also survived by his mother, Bonnie (Richard Rensch) Fyllesvold of Minot; brother, Roger (Kelli) Fyllesvold of Plaza; sister, Jodi (Lars) Hanson of Clear Lake, SD; maternal grandmother, Violet Olson of Minot; and his parents-in-law, Larry and Janice Peterson of Antler.
