Terry McGinnis Obituary-Death News; Terry McGinnis Passed Away – Owner Of Terry’s Grocery & Pizza Terry McGinnis Dies

Terry McGinnis, the cherished owner of Terry’s Grocery & Pizza in Lynchburg, Ohio, passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 70. His passing marks the end of an era for the Lynchburg community, where he was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a beloved friend, mentor, and philanthropist.

Born in 1955, Terry’s journey was one of resilience and dedication. After a promising start as a baseball player at Elder High School, he was offered a scholarship to Marshall University. However, due to a missing biology credit, the scholarship was revoked. Undeterred, Terry enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where he studied special education and volunteered at Longview State Hospital, working with children with special needs. This experience profoundly impacted him, leading to a lifelong commitment to supporting and mentoring individuals with special needs.

In 1978, Terry and his wife, Jane, purchased a small gas station and deli on US 50 in Lynchburg. With hard work and a deep commitment to their community, they transformed it into Terry’s Grocery & Pizza—a beloved local institution known for its hearty hoagies, wood-fired pizzas, and signature “crazy shakes.” The establishment became more than just a place to eat; it was a gathering spot where neighbors became friends.

Terry’s generosity extended beyond his business. He founded the monthly Hoagie Day fundraiser, donating all proceeds to the Lynchburg-Clay Athletic Boosters. Over the years, this initiative raised over $150,000, funding scholarships and athletic programs for local students. Terry also provided employment opportunities to individuals with special needs, offering them a sense of purpose and belonging.

Family was at the heart of everything Terry did. He and Jane raised five children—Bridget, Terry Jr. (TJ), Jessica, Nicole, and Deirdre—all of whom played active roles in the family business. Several of their grandchildren also worked at the store, ensuring that Terry’s legacy would continue for generations.

Terry’s impact on the Lynchburg community is immeasurable. His unwavering dedication to service, his compassionate spirit, and his commitment to uplifting others have left an indelible mark. As the community mourns his loss, they also celebrate the incredible life he led and the countless lives he touched.

A public memorial service will be held at Terry’s Grocery & Pizza on June 10, 2025, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Terry McGinnis Memorial Scholarship Fund, supporting local students pursuing higher education.

Terry McGinnis’s legacy is a testament to the power of community, kindness, and the enduring impact of a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
