An early morning shooting in North Omaha has left one person dead and another recovering from injuries.

According to the Omaha Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire near 61st Street and Camden Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. Upon arrival, they discovered a man lying unresponsive in the middle of the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement released Sunday morning, police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Ashtin Fletcher.

Further investigation revealed that a 20-year-old man had also been injured during the incident. He was transported to Nebraska Medicine with what authorities described as a non-life-threatening injury.

“It’s a large scene. It’s still an active scene. We have investigators out,” said OPD Lieutenant Jose Nava in a statement to First Alert 6.
