SAN MATEO, CA — A growing wave of concern has swept across the Bay Area as the search intensifies for Amy Huang, a 27-year-old San Mateo resident who was reported missing earlier this week. Huang was last seen near the San Mateo Bridge under circumstances that have left both authorities and her loved ones desperate for answers.
The incident began unfolding on the evening of April 4, 2025, when authorities received a report of an abandoned vehicle located on the westbound side of the San Mateo Bridge. The car, later confirmed to belong to Amy, was found near the mid-span of the bridge, with no one inside. Personal belongings, including her cell phone and purse, were left behind in the car, raising immediate red flags for investigators.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a passerby called in the report around 8:15 p.m., stating that the vehicle appeared to have been stopped for some time with its hazard lights blinking. When law enforcement arrived, they conducted an initial search of the surrounding area, but Amy was nowhere to be found.
Amy’s family and friends have since launched a massive campaign to locate her, plastering social media with her photos and descriptions. She is described as 5’5”, approximately 120 pounds, with long black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a dark green sweater and jeans.
Her sudden disappearance has left her family devastated. Speaking to local media, Amy’s older brother, Daniel Huang, said, “This is completely out of character for Amy. She’s responsible, she always checks in with someone, and she would never just leave her car on a bridge. We’re terrified something happened to her.”
The San Mateo Police Department, in collaboration with CHP and the U.S. Coast Guard, has continued search efforts both on land and in the surrounding waters beneath the bridge. On Saturday morning, the Coast Guard deployed a rescue helicopter and boat crews to scour the bay, but so far, no sign of Amy has been found.
Investigators have not yet confirmed whether foul play is suspected, but they are reviewing bridge surveillance footage and any potential witness accounts. Police have also issued a public call for assistance, urging anyone who may have been on the bridge or in the area between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening to come forward.
“We are following every lead and conducting a thorough investigation,” said a spokesperson for the San Mateo Police Department. “Amy’s safety is our top priority, and we are doing everything possible to locate her.”
In the meantime, a vigil is being planned by friends and neighbors at Central Park in San Mateo, where community members will gather to pray for Amy’s safe return and support her family during this deeply distressing time.
Anyone with information regarding Amy Huang’s whereabouts is urged to contact the San Mateo Police Department at (650) 522-7700 or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
As the search continues, a community remains on edge—hoping, praying, and waiting for Amy to come home.
