Mollie Mcclure Obituary-Death News; Minnesota State Trooper Mollie McClure Dies in Off-Duty Accident on Waubay Lake

The Minnesota State Patrol is grieving the untimely loss of one of its own, Trooper Mollie McClure, who tragically died in an off-duty accident on Waubay Lake in northeastern South Dakota.

While details about the circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been made public out of respect for her family’s privacy, the agency and community are united in mourning a life marked by dedication, compassion, and service.

Trooper McClure, who joined the Minnesota State Patrol in October 2021, was assigned to the St. Cloud district. In her relatively short time with the agency, she quickly became a highly regarded member of the law enforcement community.

Colleagues describe her as a trooper who embodied integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to public service. “Mollie was more than just a trooper—she was a mentor, a friend, and a bright presence within our agency,” the State Patrol shared in a public statement.

“Her dedication to helping others and making a difference in every role she took on is a legacy that will not be forgotten.” In addition to her patrol duties, Trooper McClure made substantial contributions behind the scenes.

She was actively involved in training trooper academy cadets, sharing her skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm with the next generation of officers. Her leadership in this area reflected her strong belief in mentorship and support within the ranks.

McClure also served as a peer counselor, offering emotional and mental health support to fellow troopers. Her role in this program highlighted not only her strength but also her deep compassion for those around her.

She was a key participant in a workgroup focused on increasing the number of female troopers in the agency, demonstrating her commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality in law enforcement.

Outside of uniform, Trooper McClure’s kindness and humanity shone brightly. In 2023, she captured hearts nationwide when a video of her gently rescuing a baby deer trapped in a roadside fence went viral on YouTube. It was a moment that perfectly illustrated who she was—courageous, caring, and deeply connected to the world around her.

She was also a fixture at public recruiting events, where her warmth and genuine interest in others made her an excellent ambassador for the State Patrol. Recruits and civilians alike gravitated toward her approachable demeanor and natural leadership, and her efforts played a key role in inspiring future officers.

The Minnesota State Patrol has extended its deepest condolences to Trooper McClure’s family, friends, and fellow troopers. “We are heartbroken,” the agency stated. “This is an immense loss to our State Patrol family and to the community she so faithfully served.”

Support for the search and recovery efforts following the incident came from a broad network of partners, including the Day County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Day County Emergency Management, Codington County Search and Rescue, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The State Patrol expressed sincere gratitude for the compassion and cooperation shown during such a difficult time.

As the law enforcement community in Minnesota and beyond reflects on the life and service of Trooper Mollie McClure, one thing is clear: her impact will live on. She leaves behind not only a career of distinguished service but a legacy of heart, courage, and integrity.

May she rest in peace, and may her memory continue to inspire all who follow in her path.
