Diogo Jota Car Accident; 28 Years Portuguese Striker Of Liverpool, Diogo Jota Passes Away In A Fatal Car Accident
Diogo Jota, the Portuguese striker of Liverpool, 28, has lost his life in a traffic accident that occurred overnight in the province of Zamora, in Spain.
The accident was registered at kilometer 65 of the A-52 highway, in the Sanabria area.
The vehicle in which Jota was traveling along with his brother André, 26 years old and also a professional footballer of Penafiel club, went off the road and caught fire, causing a fire in the surrounding area.
Witnesses who called the ambulance reported the car was engulfed in flames and the fire spread to vegetation near the scene of the crash.
Diogo Jota had just married on June 22 to his fiancée, Rute Cardoso. The couple had three children: Dennis, Duarte and a newborn baby girl in 2024 whose name has not been made public.
Jota arrived to Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton for 44.7 million euros. During his time at The Reds, he played 182 games, scored 65 goals and provided 26 assists, winning with the club a Premier League title (201-25), an FA Cup (2021-22) and a League Cup (2021-22).
In 2016 Atlético Madrid bought the Portuguese footballer from Paços Ferreira for 7 million euros, however, Jota did not play an official match for the Spanish club and was later loaned to Porto and Wolverhampton, before eventually moving to England in 2018 for 14 million euros.
