Gracie Evans Obituary-Death News; Gracie Elizabeth Evans Nevens Passes Away By Suicide

Grace Nevens, from Morpeth, was a remarkable young woman whose warmth, energy, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Passionate about mental health, she volunteered tirelessly for the charity Mind, all while juggling the demands of university life, a rigorous athletics training schedule, and an active social calendar.

Grace embodied the rare balance of ambition and compassion, and her ability to support others while pursuing her own goals made her stand out among her peers.

Tragically, Grace passed away on November 4, just six months after celebrating her 22nd birthday. Her death sent shockwaves through her community and beyond, as the people who loved her tried to come to terms with the loss of someone so vibrant and full of promise.

Grace’s younger sister, Lucy, shared a touching tribute on TikTok that has since moved thousands. The video, which shows Grace smiling and holding a birthday cake, is set to the poignant song Stand By Me.

The caption reads: “One minute you’re celebrating your sister’s 22nd birthday with her, 6 months later you’re sat at her funeral – I’ll love you forever Gracie.” The simple, raw message resonated deeply, with many viewers leaving heartfelt comments and sharing how they planned to honour Grace in their own lives.

One user wrote: “I’m Gracie, I’m 22 next month – I’ll celebrate for your Gracie too.” Another added: “My name is Gracie and I turn 22 in a few months. I’ll add an extra candle and celebrate her as well!” One especially touching comment came from a mother, who shared: “My little girl’s name is Gracie and I promise every year on her birthday we’ll light an extra candle for your Gracie too. I’m so sorry for your loss.”

In response to the outpouring of support, Lucy revealed details about her sister that captured Grace’s joyful spirit. Her favourite colour was pink, and she had a deep love for dogs—especially the family’s beloved Chihuahua, Maya. On Facebook, Lucy shared a more in-depth tribute, writing: “As a big sister, I never thought I would ever have to write the following: It’s from our broken, broken hearts that we want to let you know the passing of our beautiful Grace Elizabeth Nevens. Grace was the most beautiful person, both inside and out, with chocolate button eyes.”

She continued: “We have all been so incredibly lucky to have had her in our lives, even for the short 22 years that we have been allowed together. She has left a huge hole in our hearts, and she will be sorely missed by everyone that she touched in this life.”

Among those most affected by Grace’s death is her childhood friend, Kate Walker, who is now honouring Grace’s legacy by raising funds for Mind. Kate is preparing to run the Manchester Marathon on April 27 and has already raised £363 of her £450 goal. \

On her fundraising page, Kate reflected on their lifelong friendship: “When I moved to Morpeth aged six, Grace and her sister Lucy lived directly across the road from me. Grace quickly became my childhood best friend. We were inseparable. Grace was always hilarious and the true definition of unique. To this day, I’ve never met anyone like her.”

Kate concluded with a promise: “This one’s for you, Grace. I’ll have a pint for you on the finish line and I promise to always be there for Lucy.”

Grace Nevens’ life, though heartbreakingly short, was rich in meaning and full of love. Through the memories shared by those closest to her and the ongoing acts of kindness in her name, her legacy continues to shine.
