Born in Selden, New York, Xander later made his home in Raleigh, where he grew up and became an active, vibrant presence in his community. He attended North Ridge Elementary School, continued his education at West Millbrook Middle School, and graduated from Jesse O. Sanderson High School.
Even from a young age, Xander showed a spark of creativity, a love of performance, and a tireless work ethic that would define so much of his life. Xander’s passion for the arts was deeply rooted in his involvement with the North Raleigh Arts & Creative Theatre (NRACT).

He loved cleaning and organizing so much that the term “Xanderized” was affectionately coined by those around him to describe the tidy and thorough touch he left on every space he worked in.
His commitment to NRACT did not go unnoticed. He was the very first recipient of the “Elizabeth Grimes-Droessler Volunteer Award,” a recognition that perfectly encapsulated his devotion, selflessness, and genuine love for his community.
His NRACT family remembered him as “devoted, hardworking, kind, and witty,” someone who lifted the spirits of others with his humor and gentle presence. His passing has left an irreplaceable void in the theatre that meant so much to him and that he helped nurture for years.
