Andrew Koivisto Obituary-Death News; Andrew Koivisto Death – Andrew Koivisto Dies in Fatal Car Accident
With broken hearts and abiding faith, we share that Andrew Jerald Koivisto was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, July 17, 2025, following injuries sustained in a car accident on June 22.
Although Andrew’s time with us was far too short, his life served as a vibrant testament to joy, love, and Christian faith. Born on January 30, 2008, in Buffalo, Minnesota, Andrew was the beloved son of Gregory and Shanna Koivisto.
He was raised in a large, loving family and brought a special light into the lives of his parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, grandparents, extended family, and many dear friends.
Andrew grew up in Dassel and attended Dassel-Cokato Schools from kindergarten through his junior year. During those years, he built deep friendships and lasting memories that reflected his energetic, generous, and cheerful nature.
In recent years, Andrew worked alongside his father at the family’s cabinet shop. His high energy and natural leadership ability brought warmth and unity to the workplace. He had a gift for rallying others together—whether coworkers or family—and inspired people to collaborate with joy and purpose.
His presence in the shop was as essential as the tools on the wall, and he played a key role in keeping morale high and work moving forward. Outside of work, Andrew lived life fully and intentionally.
He found joy in the simplest things—laughing with friends, golfing with loved ones, or playing with his nieces and nephews, who adored his playful spirit. He was known for jumping into projects with enthusiasm, whether helping out at home or acting as project manager for his cousin Vince’s truck rebuild.
Always moving, always smiling, Andrew rarely sat still, and he left a trail of joy wherever he went. What truly set Andrew apart was his kind and sincere heart. His bubbly and unassuming demeanor made people feel at ease, and his boundless energy lit up any room he entered.
He had an instinctive ability to connect with others—young and old, friend or stranger. Andrew lived with purpose and clarity, and those closest to him will remember the way he never let unresolved words linger.
He understood the importance of resolving conflicts with those he loved, a trait that made him wiser than his years. Andrew also carried a deep desire for the Gospel and held firm to the faith that was such an important part of his life and upbringing. We trust in that faith as we grieve his passing.
Andrew is survived by his loving parents, Gregory and Shanna Koivisto; his siblings, Blayne (Abigail), Abigail (Hans Siltala), Nicholas (Jade), Hans (Akia), Jack, Ellen, Greta, Clayton, Landon, Sam, Leo, and Jane Koivisto; his 11 nieces and nephews; his grandparents, Nancy Mattila and Paul and Ruth Koivisto; his special friend, Kayla Kotila; as well as countless extended family and dear friends who were blessed by his life.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Mattila, and uncles, Micheal Mattila and Grant Koivisto. Visitation will be held from 4–8 PM, with a 7 PM prayer service, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and again for one hour prior to the funeral service.
The funeral will be held at 2 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Cokato Laestadian Lutheran Church. Arrangements are being handled by Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato, MN (320-286-2534, www.swansonpeterson.com).
Andrew’s radiant spirit, love of life, and unwavering faith will never be forgotten. We rest in the hope of the resurrection and trust that he is now safe in the arms of his Savior.
