Arleigh Alexzander Obituary-Death News; Two Arrested in Uptown Charlotte Mass Shooting That Left One Dead, Five Injured

Authorities in Charlotte, North Carolina, have made two arrests following a deadly mass shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the bustling Uptown district.

The violence erupted around 1:45 a.m. on July 14, 2025, in the 300 block of North College Street, a popular nightlife area home to several nightclubs and late-night venues.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD)one person was killed and five others were injured in what officers described as a chaotic and tragic shooting.

The victim who died has been identified as Arleigh Alexzander Bryant, 37. Bryant was an employee of Encore/XOXO, a nightclub near the scene of the incident.

In a heartfelt statement posted to social media, the club confirmed Bryant’s employment and expressed deep sorrow over his death:

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our valued employees. Arleigh was a beloved part of our team. The violence that took place did not originate inside our venue and appears to be the result of a senseless act of gun violence in the surrounding area.”

The shooting occurred at a time when the area was busy with nightlife patrons, adding to the confusion and danger. Deputy Chief Ryan Butler of CMPD addressed the public during a press conference Monday afternoon, describing the events as “very chaotic.”

“We absolutely believe that multiple people were involved, whether they were witnesses, victims, or suspects,” Butler stated.

He went on to praise the quick response of nine off-duty CMPD officers who were already working in the area and immediately sprang into action when shots rang out. Officers arrived to find Bryant fatally wounded and five others suffering from gunshot injuries. The injured individuals were transported to local hospitals, where they are reportedly recovering.

In a significant development, police announced the arrest of two suspects on Monday. The first arrest occurred in the morning, and the second later in the afternoon with assistance from the Gastonia Police Department. Authorities have not yet released the names of the suspects but indicated that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests could be possible.

Police said that more than seven firearms were recovered at the scene, a grim indication of the scale of the gun violence that unfolded. CMPD is continuing to interview witnesses and gather surveillance footage from nearby businesses in an effort to piece together the full sequence of events and determine the motive.

The department is also urging members of the public who may have seen anything or recorded any footage from the night to come forward.

“We know this incident has shaken our community,” Butler said. “We need continued cooperation from the public to ensure those responsible are held accountable.”

The tragedy has reignited concern about gun violence in Charlotte’s Uptown area, especially as the summer draws more crowds into nightlife hubs. Community leaders and residents have begun calling for more visible security and continued police presence in high-traffic areas.

As investigations continue, memorials are already forming in honor of Arleigh Bryant, who is being remembered by friends and colleagues as a kind-hearted, hardworking individual who brought warmth and energy to his workplace. Social media has been flooded with condolences and memories of Bryant, and Encore/XOXO has announced plans for a private remembrance event in the coming days.
