Christophe Clement Obituary – Cause of Death: Leading US-Based Trainer Christophe Clement Passes Away

The French-born trainer enjoyed a remarkable 34-year career in the U.S., achieving over 2,500 wins, including the 2014 Belmont Stakes with Tonalist and the 2021 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies’ Turf with Pizza Bianca.

Clement also trained multiple Grade 1 winners like Gio Ponti and secured victories in prestigious races such as the Arlington Million and Man o’ War Stakes.

In a final social media post, Clement shared his reflections: “I never worked a day in my life. Every morning, I woke up and did what I loved most, surrounded by so much love.
” He expressed pride in running his stable with integrity and care for the horses and gratitude to his longtime assistant Christophe Lorieul and his son Miguel, who will now take over the stable’s training duties.

Clement began training in the U.S. in 1991, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure in the sport and earning over \$166 million in prize money. He credited his father Miguel, a respected trainer in France, and experience with top international yards for shaping his career.

He concluded his message with a heartfelt thanks to the racing community and a reminder to “enjoy life every single day.”
