Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Jet Ski Accident – Kayaker Ava Moore Death – Arrest Made in Fatal Hit-and-Run on North Texas Lake
The woman suspected of fatally colliding with 18-year-old kayaker Ava Renee Moore on Grapevine Lake has been taken into custody. On Tuesday, May 27, Grapevine Police and Texas Game Wardens confirmed the arrest of Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez in connection with the tragic incident that occurred over Memorial Day weekend.
The collision took place on Sunday, May 25, near Oak Grove Park. Moore, a recent graduate of Timber Creek High School and a student at the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School, was kayaking when she was struck by a personal watercraft (PWC) carrying two women.
The passenger remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, while the driver fled with an unidentified man. The pair later abandoned their vehicle after colliding with another car during their escape.
Witnesses promptly pulled Moore from the water and administered CPR. Despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center due to severe traumatic injuries.
In the days following the incident, authorities released photos and videos of the suspects, seeking public assistance in identifying them. Gonzalez was apprehended at a residence in South Dallas, though officials have not disclosed whether a tip led to her arrest.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the man who fled with Gonzalez has been identified or apprehended.
Moore was remembered as a talented athlete and aspiring Air Force officer. Her basketball coach at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School, Ke’sha Blanton, described her as someone who “made those around her better” and had aspirations of becoming a four-star general.
A GoFundMe campaign established to assist Moore’s family with funeral expenses has raised over $13,000.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident and urge anyone with additional information to contact the Grapevine Police Department.
