Dakota MacGill Obituary-Death News; Dakota MacGill dies in fatal Loyalsock Creek kayaking accident in Lycoming County
Dakota MacGill, 26, from South Williamsport, tragically lost his life after drowning in Loyalsock Creek on Saturday morning. The Lycoming County Coroner’s Office identified MacGill’s body after it was recovered late Monday afternoon by the Williamsport Bureau of Fire at the Mill Street boat launch.
MacGill was kayaking with two others near Montoursville when their kayaks capsized in rapids south of the launch site. While both occupants of the second kayak were wearing flotation vests and managed to reach shore safely, MacGill, described as an experienced kayaker, was not wearing a life vest. He was pulled under by strong currents, resulting in his drowning.
Throughout the weekend, multiple agencies including the Williamsport Bureau of Fire, Clinton Township, South Williamsport, and Picture Rocks, along with divers and drone teams from Old Lycoming Township and DuBoistown Fire departments, conducted extensive searches to locate MacGill.
