Deanna Sommerfeld Obituary: Fatal Head-On Crash in Saline County Claims Life
According to Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Jim Hughes, the crash happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Kansas Highway 140 near South Reese Road. A Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 32-year-old Kayla Errebo of Lorraine, was traveling westbound when it crossed into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a Chevrolet truck driven by 61-year-old Mark Sommerfeld of Brookville.
Deanna Sommerfeld, a passenger in the Chevrolet, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mark Sommerfeld was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. Both occupants of the Chevrolet were reported to have been properly restrained.
Errebo was not present at the crash site when deputies arrived but was later located at an address in Ellsworth around 8:30 a.m. She sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment. Errebo was taken into custody and faces multiple charges including second-degree murder, failure to report an injury accident, circumvention of an ignition interlock device, and probation violation.
