Jasmine Terry, a cherished member of the Jacksonville, Florida community, passed away on April 22, 2025, after sustaining fatal gunshot wounds during a late-evening incident. Law enforcement reports indicate that Ms. Terry was shot while sitting in her vehicle outside a friend’s home in the Arlington neighborhood.
Despite the rapid response of first responders, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Jasmine was known for her compassion, warmth, and unwavering commitment to those around her. A graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of North Florida. Upon completing her education, Jasmine returned to her hometown, dedicating her career to youth mentorship and community outreach.
For the past three years, she served as a program coordinator at the Northeast Florida Youth Services Center, where she organized workshops, tutoring sessions, and recreational activities aimed at empowering at-risk teenagers.
Friends and colleagues recall Jasmine’s infectious laughter and her ability to bring people together. “She had this incredible gift for making everyone feel seen and valued,” said Maria Delgado, a co-worker and longtime friend.
“Whether it was staying late to help a student grasp a difficult concept or organizing weekend community clean-ups, Jasmine led by example and inspired us all.” Under her leadership, participation in the Center’s literacy program increased by 40 percent, and several of her mentees have gone on to attend college on scholarship.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Jasmine was an avid gardener and amateur photographer. Her Instagram feed—filled with vibrant shots of azaleas, wisteria, and local wildlife offered a glimpse into her love for nature.
On weekends, she could often be found volunteering at the Jacksonville Arboretum & Gardens, tending to the community vegetable plots and leading guided nature walks for children.
Jasmine is survived by her parents, Tonya and Michael Terry; her younger brother, Marcus; her grandparents, Linda and Robert Caldwell; and a wide circle of friends, mentees, and colleagues.
Private funeral services will be held for family members, with a public celebration of life scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Riverside Community Church, 2650 Park Street, Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Northeast Florida Youth Services Center in Jasmine’s memory, to continue supporting the programs she loved.
Her family asks the community to honor Jasmine’s legacy by performing acts of kindness and supporting local youth initiatives. “Jasmine believed fiercely in the power of hope and community,” her mother, Tonya Terry, said. “We want her memory to live on in every young person who feels inspired to dream bigger because someone believed in them.”
