Jim Burdett : Hagerstown Police Department : Tragically mourns the death of their long time police auxiliary member

James “Jim” Vito Burdett, 79, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born on August 7, 1945, in Scranton, NJ, to the late Clair and Laura (Piazza) Burdett. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Mary (Burdett) Kaczmarek.

A graduate of North Hagerstown High School, Jim dedicated over four decades of his career to Mack Trucks, retiring after 41 years of service in various roles. Beyond his professional life, Jim was a devoted member of the Hagerstown community. He actively served with the Hagerstown Auxiliary Police, Truck 1 and Engine 5 Hagerstown, Funkstown Fire Company, UAW, and the Washington County Air Unit. He was also a lifelong member of the Community Rescue Service.

Jim’s community spirit extended to many organizations—he was a member of the Red Men Club in Williamsport, the North American Rod & Gun Club, and the Hagerstown Elks, where he was a sponsor of their PAL bingo events. He was also a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Smithsburg.

Jim is survived by his twin children: daughter Ann Seiss (Jerry) and son Mike Burdett (Julie); six grandchildren—Jessica, Bobby
