Jon Nickowski And Kimberly Sullivan Obituary-Death News; Police Investigate Murder-Suicide In East Austin
The Austin Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide after two people were found dead in a home on the 1900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on July 29. The discovery, reported around 4:12 p.m., came from a delivery driver who saw a man bleeding through an open door and called 911.
When officers arrived, they found 50-year-old Jon Nickowski with trauma injuries and a firearm nearby, and 42-year-old Kimberly Sullivan inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene before 4:30 p.m. Police say Nickowski shot Sullivan before taking his own life.
The two had been in a long-term relationship. Neighbor Alec Brownridge described seeing emergency vehicles rush to the scene but hearing no prior disturbance. He said the incident was a reminder of life’s fragility rather than a cause for fear.
The case has renewed attention on domestic violence risks. Heather Bellino, CEO of the Texas Advocacy Project, warned that access to firearms in abusive relationships increases the risk of homicide dramatically. The nonprofit offers free legal services to survivors and helps create safety plans before situations escalate.
Bellino urged those in unsafe relationships to trust their instincts, develop escape strategies, and consider safe words with trusted contacts. She encouraged friends and family to offer resources and support without judgment.
