We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Kathy Wimpfheimer, a 67-year-old resident of Grand Forks, who tragically lost her life in a vehicle crash in Polk County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the fatal collision occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Kathy was driving westbound on County Road 17 when her SUV collided with a semi-truck traveling north on Highway 2.

Kathy sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi, identified as 27-year-old Tyler James Shaver of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota, was transported to Altura Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Kathy Wimpfheimer’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Remembered for her warmth, strength, and kindness, she will be dearly missed by family, friends, and her community.
