Keyshawn Wilder Obituary-Death News; Shenandoah University Mourns The Loss Of Former Football Player And Assistant Coach Keyshawn Wilder
Shenandoah Athletics and the wider university community are grieving the sudden loss of Keyshawn Wilder, a beloved student-athlete, coach, and friend whose influence stretched far beyond the football field.
Keyshawn, who was working toward completing his Bachelor of Business Administration in the School of Business, was also serving as the defensive backs coach for Shenandoah’s football program at the time of his passing.
Keyshawn’s journey with Shenandoah University began in 2019, when he joined the Hornets football team as a defensive back. Over four seasons, he distinguished himself not only with his skill on the field but also with his leadership and infectious enthusiasm.
He earned all-conference, all-state, and all-region honors for his exceptional play during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, ultimately concluding his collegiate career ranked second in program history for career interceptions—a testament to his talent, discipline, and hard work.
In 2024, Keyshawn transitioned from player to coach, joining Head Coach Scott Yoder’s staff to guide and mentor the next generation of defensive backs. His dedication to the team and to Shenandoah Athletics was unwavering.
Teammates and players alike described him as “one of the hearts of Shenandoah’s football program,” someone who led by example, inspired others to give their best, and always lifted the spirits of those around him.
Beyond his athletic and coaching achievements, Keyshawn’s personality left a lasting mark on the Shenandoah community. His joy was contagious—whether he was cracking jokes in the locker room, engaging with classmates in business courses, or singing and dancing on team bus rides.
Friends and teammates recall his ability to turn even the most stressful days into moments of laughter and camaraderie. The university has extended its deepest condolences to Keyshawn’s family, friends, and girlfriend, and has encouraged members of the community to send cards and messages of support.
Cards may be mailed to Shenandoah University (℅ President’s Office, 1460 University Drive, Winchester, Virginia, 22601), where they will be forwarded to his loved ones.
In addition to honoring his life, the university is also emphasizing the importance of community care during this time of loss. Losing a teammate, mentor, or friend can be profoundly difficult, and Shenandoah University has reminded students, faculty, and staff of the many resources available to support their emotional and spiritual well-being.
These include the Counseling Center (540-665-4530, counseling@su.edu), Spiritual Life (540-535-3546, spirituallife@su.edu), the Provost’s Office (540-665-4525, provost@su.edu), and the Office of Human Resources (540-665-5597, hr@su.edu).
For 24/7 help, the Concern Hotline can be reached at 540-667-0145, and students may also submit a Student of Concern report for themselves or someone else to the Shenandoah CARE Team.
Keyshawn’s passing has left an undeniable void, but his legacy will remain firmly rooted in the memories of those who shared the field, classroom, and community with him.
He will be remembered for his fierce dedication to the game, his commitment to academic success, and—perhaps most of all—for the way he made people feel valued, supported, and seen.
As Shenandoah University comes together to mourn, the community also honors Keyshawn’s example: a life lived with passion, integrity, and joy. In the hearts of the many lives he touched, Keyshawn Wilder’s spirit will forever be part of the Hornets family.
