Lori Wasko Obituary-Death News; Tragic Shooting in Susquehanna County Claims Life

Lori Wasko, 57, was fatally shot outside her home near Thompson Township in a violent shooting spree that also left two state troopers injured. The incident unfolded along Route 171, where police continue their investigation amid heightened community concern.
Authorities have identified the suspect as 61-year-old Carmine Faino, Wasko’s neighbor, who reportedly shot Wasko before ambushing responding state troopers. State Police Commissioner Colonel Christopher Paris described the chaotic scene, noting the troopers were caught off guard upon arrival and were targeted by Faino, who was armed with a semi-automatic long gun.

“It was a tactical advantage when you have the element of surprise but also the element of distance,” Colonel Paris explained.

Residents recalled seeing Faino days before the attack, armed and openly carrying a loaded AR-15 and pistol while walking along Route 171. Layne Conklin, a local resident, and his wife reported the suspicious man to authorities prior to the shooting.

“We saw a man looking suspiciously up and down the road with an AR-15, a loaded magazine, and another pistol on his leg,” Conklin said. “It’s a right to bear arms 100%, but to be that heavily armed like that is scary, especially with kids around.”

As the investigation continues, Colonel Paris emphasized that law enforcement is working to uncover all details about Faino’s actions before and during the shooting. Meanwhile, the two injured state troopers remain hospitalized with a positive outlook for recovery.

The community mourns the loss of Lori Wasko, whose life was tragically cut short in this violent incident. Authorities urge anyone with information to assist the ongoing investigation as they seek justice and safety for Susquehanna County residents.
