Makenna was an accomplished and caring professional who had recently been serving as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Ascension Sports Medicine since July 26, 2024.
In addition to her work in sports medicine, she was also a beloved instructor at the Kokomo Area Career Center (KACC), where she poured her heart into teaching and mentoring future healthcare and sports professionals. Her commitment to youth, education, and wellness was unwavering and defined much of her life’s work.
Born and raised in Macy, Indiana, Makenna graduated from North Miami Junior – Senior High School, Class of 2014. From an early age, she was known for her kindness, curiosity, and drive. Her passion for helping others led her to pursue athletic training at Manchester University, where she developed her skills and deepened her commitment to sports medicine. She approached her studies with the same energy and enthusiasm that she brought into every other area of her life.
Makenna’s professional path was a reflection of her compassion and love for people. She found joy in helping athletes recover, mentoring students, and being an encouraging presence on and off the field.
Her students at KACC and the athletes she supported at Ascension describe her as not only knowledgeable and hardworking but also as someone who truly cared. She was known for her infectious positivity, her genuine encouragement, and the trust she inspired in those she worked with.
Living in Peru, Indiana, Makenna remained close to her roots and dedicated to her local community. Whether volunteering her time, cheering from the sidelines, or simply offering a smile and a kind word, she had a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Friends and coworkers often spoke of her reliability, her warmth, and the bright spirit she brought into every room.
Tragically, Makenna’s promising life was cut short in an accident that has left her loved ones devastated.
