Muscatine Shooting Today – Woman Shot Multiple Times at Hy-Vee by Alleged Stalker

A shocking and deeply disturbing shooting unfolded today, June 30, 2025, at the Hy-Vee grocery store in Muscatine, Iowa, leaving the local community rattled and grieving. According to eyewitness reports and early police statements, a young woman was shot multiple times—reportedly up to seven times inside the store’s customer service area by a man believed to have been stalking her.

The incident occurred in the early afternoon, prompting a massive police response. Muscatine Police Department quickly arrived on scene and secured the area, advising the public to avoid the Hy-Vee located near Park Avenue while the investigation continues. Customers and employees were swiftly evacuated, with several people visibly shaken as they exited the building.

Witnesses inside the store at the time of the shooting described a chaotic and terrifying scene. “It happened so fast,” said one shopper who asked to remain anonymous. “One moment everything seemed normal, and the next there were gunshots near the front of the store. People were screaming and running. I grabbed my kids and ran for the back exit.”

Initial reports suggest that the alleged shooter, a man known to the victim, approached her while she was working at the customer service desk. Without warning, he opened fire in what appeared to be a targeted act of violence. Several customers nearby dropped to the ground in fear as the shots rang out. Emergency services were called immediately, and law enforcement and paramedics arrived within minutes.

The victim, described as a woman in her 20s, was critically injured and transported to a nearby hospital. Her condition remains unknown at this time. Authorities have not yet released her identity, but multiple sources suggest she had previously expressed concerns about being stalked by the shooter. It is unclear whether any protective orders or legal measures had been taken before the incident.

Police confirmed they have taken a male suspect into custody. While his identity has not yet been made public, detectives are currently investigating the motive, which appears to be related to a pattern of harassment or stalking behavior. Officers are also reviewing surveillance footage from the store and interviewing witnesses to piece together the exact sequence of events.

The Hy-Vee has been temporarily closed as law enforcement processes the scene and collects evidence. The store’s management has released a statement expressing their deep sorrow and concern for their employee and pledging full cooperation with authorities.

“This is every retail worker’s nightmare,” said one former Hy-Vee employee on social media. “She didn’t deserve this. Nobody does.”

As news of the shooting spreads, the Muscatine community is expressing heartbreak, fear, and outrage. Residents are calling for increased protections against stalking and domestic violence and for greater mental health and crisis intervention efforts.

The Muscatine Police Department has urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. In the meantime, the city is reeling from this tragic act of violence in a place where families shop, workers earn a living, and community gathers.

As one resident posted: “We were just there earlier today… It could have been any one of us. Praying for the young woman and her family tonight.”
