Nick Sachau Obituary-Death News; 29-Year-Old Nick Sachau Dies in Fatal Accident near Ashland, Nebraska
The family and friends of Nick R. Sachau are mourning the heartbreaking loss of a beloved son, brother, nephew, friend, and professional who passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 28, 2025, near Ashland, Nebraska.
At just 29 years old, Nick had already made a profound impact on the lives of so many through his kind spirit, dedication to others, and passion for life. Nickolas Ronald Sachau was born on July 7, 1995, in Pender, Nebraska, to LeRoy and Cathleen Tellinghusen.
Tragically, Nick lost his father at the tender age of one and experienced a transient early childhood. His life found stability and love at age 12 when he was welcomed into the home of his uncle and aunt, Deacon Kent and Tina Sachau, in Humphrey, Nebraska.
Surrounded by care and support, Nick thrived in their household, considering Kent and Tina his parents and their children—Angela, Jennifer, April, and Andrew—his siblings. As a testament to his deep love and gratitude for the Sachau family, Nick legally changed his surname to Sachau upon reaching adulthood.
Nick graduated from St. Francis High School in Humphrey and pursued higher education with determination and excellence. He earned his undergraduate degree from Wayne State College before going on to graduate from Creighton University Law School.
His legal career began at the Drew Law Firm in Blair, Nebraska, and later continued at Sherrets Bruno & Vogt, LLC in Omaha, where he was known for his intelligence, work ethic, and integrity.
Outside of work, Nick was a man of many talents and interests. He had a deep love for swimming, sand volleyball, woodworking, and remodeling projects. Known for his resourcefulness and independence, he often worked on his own vehicles and took pride in doing things with his own hands.
He was also fiercely competitive and especially enjoyed spirited Monopoly games with his cousins, where his wit and strategy always shone through. Nick leaves behind a devoted family who cherished him deeply, including his brother Seath Tellinghusen and nephew Gunther of Norfolk, NE; his loving parents Kent and Tina Sachau of Humphrey, NE; his sisters Angela (Bo) Ketelsen of Martinsburg, NE, Jennifer (Scott) Williams of Blair, NE, and April (Eric) Wetterberg of Malvern, IA; and brother Andrew (Holly) Sachau of Allen, NE.
He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, his aunt Connie Miller of Springfield, SD, uncle Bill J. Sachau of Allen, NE, and his special friend, Morgan Fernau of Omaha.
Nick was preceded in death by his father LeRoy Tellinghusen, his mother Cathleen Tellinghusen, and his grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 11 at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey, Nebraska, with Father Dan Wittrock officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday, July 10 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a Vigil Service and Rosary.
Additional visitation will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass. Interment will follow at Southcreek Calvary Cemetery near Ponca, Nebraska, with refreshments and fellowship to be hosted at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ponca afterward.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Grade School or Archangels High School in Humphrey. Those who knew Nick will remember him not only for his accomplishments but for the warmth of his presence, the strength of his character, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be missed beyond words but never forgotten.
