Nolan Kiel Girard IL Obituary – North Mac High School Student-Athlete Passes Away In Deadly Farming-Related Accident

The Virden, Illinois community is grieving the loss of 16-year-old North Mac High School student-athlete Nolan Kiel of Girard, who died Monday in a farming-related accident. A junior at the school, Nolan was remembered for his kindness, positive attitude, and dedication on and off the field.

Friends and teammates described him as “the nicest kid” who brought joy and encouragement to those around him. One graduate recalled frequent conversations with Nolan and praised his thoughtfulness, noting how he had congratulated him weeks before graduation. Another called him “Big Nol” and said he would be deeply missed.

The tragedy has touched the entire Macoupin County area. The Macoupin County Fair Board extended condolences to Nolan’s family, friends, classmates, and teachers, urging the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.

North Mac High School has organized a candlelight service for students on Tuesday, August 13, at 7 p.m. in the school parking lot, followed by an 8:30 p.m. candlelit walk open to the public. Candles will be provided, and the event is intended as a time for healing, reflection, and unity.

Coaches and classmates say Nolan led by example, showing determination, sportsmanship, and genuine care for others. Proud of his rural roots, he embraced both athletics and farm life.

As the accident remains under investigation, community members are focusing on supporting his loved ones. Nolan’s memory will be honored through the unity, kindness, and resilience he embodied. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
