Sam Lively Obituary-Death News; Tyler Police Officer Passes Away In Off-Duty Motorcycle Wreck

A Tyler police officer died from his injuries after a wreck between his motorcycle and another vehicle Friday.

According to the Tyler Police Department, Officer Sam Lively was traveling south on a motorcycle on Troup Highway in the outside lane around 6 p.m.

Another vehicle was traveling in the inside lane and changed lanes as they neared Loop 323, striking the motorcycle and causing Lively to be ejected from the bike, according to Tyler Police Department spokesperson Andy Erbaugh.

Lively was taken to a hospital where he died from his injures. Erbaugh said the driver of the vehicle was cooperative and remained at the scene. According to the release, Lively recently graduated from the police academy and had been sworn in to the department for five months.

“Officer Lively was an amazing young man that wanted to serve the Tyler Community. He will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow officers,” the release said.
