Tucker Williams Obituary-Death News; Man Shot in Head by Stray Bullet While Doing Yard Work in Lenoir County: Multiple Arrests Made, Two Suspects Sought
A peaceful Saturday afternoon turned tragic in Lenoir County when 22-year-old Tucker Williams was struck in the head by a stray bullet while doing yard work outside his home.
The incident, which occurred around 5:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of Hill Drive, has led to multiple arrests and a continuing search for two additional suspects. According to the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office, Williams had been blowing off his driveway when he was suddenly and inexplicably hit by a bullet.
Deputies were quickly dispatched to the scene following a 911 call reporting a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, they found Williams suffering from a head injury caused by a stray round.
Deputies traced the trajectory of the bullet and determined it had originated from a wooded area near 6960 Skeeter Pond Road. Authorities discovered that six individuals had been engaged in target shooting at the address, across the wood line from where Williams was injured.
Law enforcement officials described the shooting as a case of gross negligence, noting that the individuals failed to ensure their line of fire was secure and safe from possible human exposure.
Shortly after the shooting, a family member of Williams approached the group of shooters to confront them, explaining that their actions had resulted in someone being hit by a bullet. Rather than remain at the scene, all six individuals fled before deputies arrived.
Thanks to coordinated efforts between multiple law enforcement agencies, four of the six suspects were later located during a traffic stop in Greenville by officers with the Greenville Police Department and Pitt County officials. Deputies from the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office responded to Greenville and took the four individuals into custody.
The arrested suspects include:
- Drequan Reid (27) of Greenville, NC – Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Misdemeanor), held on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
- Tyrell Shavon Barnhill (26) of Greenville, NC – Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M), $2,500 unsecured bond.
- Tymize Dyrell Barnhill (25) of Greenville, NC – Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M), $2,500 unsecured bond.
- Tyshawn Dodd (28) of Greenville, NC – Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M), $2,500 unsecured bond.
Handguns were also recovered from the vehicle during the traffic stop.
Warrants have also been issued for two additional individuals who were not present during the traffic stop:
- Jordan Daniels (19) of Greenville, NC – Wanted for Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M).
- Daryl Antwan Boyd (25) of Greenville, NC – Wanted for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Assault with a Deadly Weapon (M).
The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the incident was accidental but stressed the recklessness involved in firing weapons without proper safeguards. They emphasized that while the suspects may not have intended harm, their careless behavior had very real and potentially fatal consequences.
Fortunately, Tucker Williams was treated at ECU Health Medical Center and has since been released. However, the emotional trauma and gravity of the near-fatal injury remain with his family and community.
As the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating the remaining two suspects. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jordan Daniels or Daryl Antwan Boyd is urged to contact the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office or their local law enforcement agency.
This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the responsibility that comes with firearm use. Even when practicing target shooting, safety and situational awareness are critical. What began as a casual activity ended in a tragedy that could have easily claimed a young man’s life.
